In an ornamental button for garments, a setting is used which is fitted with an attachment element and in which an insert is mounted. For inexpensive production and a wide variety of the ornamental button, it is proposed to design the setting in the form of a cup-shaped capsule whose bottom surface is surrounded by a peripheral frame, the free longitudinal edge of these frame webs being provided, at least in some places, with catch lugs which can interact with the outer edge of an insert in the manner of a catch connection. It is thus possible for the user to determine the appearance and the combination of the ornamental button himself and to change it retrospectively.
