PURPOSE:To enable efficient control to be performed without providing temperature detectors for a thermal head, by setting weight data corresponding to a character to be printed, subjecting the data to addition or subtraction, and determining the width of a pulse to be applied to the thermal head on the basis of the result of the calculation. CONSTITUTION:A central processor (CPU) 13 fetches character data from a host CPU 17, stores the data into a read/write memory (RAM) 15, and reads weight data based on the character data from a ROM 18. The CPU 13 fetches the weight data, compares and calculates the data with a reference value to set a code for determining an applied pulse, and inputs the code into a pulse generator 20. The pulse generator 20 generates a pulse with a width varied according to the code, and the pulse is inputted to a heat generating element 21a of a thermal head 21 through a driving circuit 19a of a head-controlling circuit 19. A dot pattern signal for the character data is sent from the CPU 13 to the thermal head 21 through the circuit 19, thereby recording a character on a recording paper. |
