摘要 The potential across a secondary electrochemical power storage cell 14, 16 is monitored by a comparator 22 in a protective device 10 and a transistor 54 is turned on when the voltage across the cell rises to a predetermined value whereby charging current to the cell is bypassed through transistor 54. Thereafter transistor 54 turns off and on repeatedly in response to the fall and rise of cell voltage thus producing a chopping effect on the charging current so that the cell is trickle charged. Each cell of a battery of cells, charged in series, may have a respective protective device 10 so that all cells can be substantially fully charged. The devices 10 may be part of the charger or part of the battery, and the charger may provide a constant, or limited, charging current and may stop charging when the voltage across the series of cells rises to a predetermined value. The comparator 22 also operates an indicator 58 by means of a transistor 56 which may provide a digital signal to a computer which monitors the states of charge of individual cells and calculates a desirable charging current. The cells may have sodium anodes, Fe/FeCl2 active cathodes, and N or AlCl4 electrolyte. <IMAGE>
