PURPOSE:To obtain a steel sheet having superior suitability to painting by electrodeposition by plating a steel sheet with pure Zn or a Zn alloy to form a lower layer and by further plating the steel sheet with Fe contg. B or S to form an upper layer. CONSTITUTION:A steel sheet is plated with pure Zn or a Zn alloy to form a lower layer. The steel sheet is further plated with Fe contg. 0.001-3wt% B or 0.001-0.4wt% S to form an upper layer by 0.5-10g/m<2> per one side. The plated steel sheet has much superior suitability to painting by cationic electrodeposition as compared with a conventional one, so it is suitable for use as a material which is painted by electrodeposition after working, e.g., a material for the members of an automobile body.
