PURPOSE:To obtain the title steel strip and sheet with high efficiency and at a low cost by hot-rolling austenitic stainless steel of specified C content, immediately quenching and winding the steel, pickling the steel, the cold-rolling the steel with a large-bore roll, and then applying final annealing, pickling, or bright annealing. CONSTITUTION:The austenitic stainless steel contg. <=0.07wt% C represented by 18Cr-8Ni is hot-rolled with the finishing temp. of >=950 deg.C, quenched, and then wound at <=650 deg.C. Mechanical descaling for spraying high-pressure water contg. iron sand particles is applied to the wound stainless steel, and the steel is pickled with an aq. soln. contg. 80,300g/l HNO3 and 10-200g/l HF. In this case, the pickling soln. is kept at >=50 deg.C, the steel sheet surface is dissolved and ground to a depth of 2-3mu, and the pickling is finished in a short time to effectively smooth the surface. The pickled steel sheet is then cold-rolled at >=30% draft with a large-boare roll having >=200mm diameter, final annealing and picking or bright pickling are applied, the steel is temper-rolled, as required, and the desired austenitic stainless steel strip and sheet having excellent polishability are obtained. |
