<p>To protect an engine from stall, resulting from inertia loads downstream of a clutch disc assembly (76) instantaneously exceeding available engine torque, by controllably directing fluid pressure to the clutch disc assembly (76); the present invention includes a control valve (116) enclosing a reciprocable valve member (120) continuously urged in a first axial direction against the thrust of a speed sensor (166) associated with the input member (68). Below a preselected input member (68) speed, the valve (116) reduces clutch actuating pressure, limiting the torque load on the engine (12). The apparatus (114) of the present invention may be accessible for installation and service, and can be fitted to existing systems.</p> |
