The mechanism has a connecting element 10 shown as a keeper and an assembly for adjusting the position of element 10; the assembly comprises a fixture 12, 13 for mounting to one of the two structures to be secured by the mechanism, a rotatable element 14 contained by fixture 12, 13 and a member 15 to translate rotational movement of the rotatable element 14 into linear movement of the connecting element 10, allowing infinitely small, non-incremental adjustment of the position of the connecting element 10 relative to the structures. The rotatable element 14 has openings 33 for receipt of a tool to rotate the element 14 and a central hexagonal opening 34 to receive portion 40 of a cylindrical member 15 with inner threads 44 to be engaged by threaded portion 11 of element 10 and with outer threads 42 to mate with a threaded through hole 44 of fixture 12, 13. Rotation of element 14 by tool inserted through an access opening 20 causes rotational movement of member 15 and linear movement of element 10 which is prevented from rotating by a pin 30 - pin 30 extends through slots 28, 29 in a cylindrical portion 24 of fixture 12, 13 which portion 24 receives a split sleeve-like member 47.
