PURPOSE:To reproduce a document in which character information and picture information are mixed with a general purpose facsimile, by providing a conversion processing section, synthtization processing section, etc., and transmitting the document as a document in which character information and picture information are mixed by converting the character information into picture information. CONSTITUTION:Document information prepared by a document preparation and edition processing section 10 is accumulated in a document information memory section 11 and an already existing original inputted from a picture input processing section 12 is accumulated in a picture information memory section 13. Then these bits of information are layout- processed by a layout processing section 20 in accordance with a paper size and, after being accumulated in a layout-processed document memory section 22, transferred to a conversion processing section 40 in accordance with a header which discriminates the leading character information and picture information of data through a separation processing section 30. At the processing section 40, character patterns corresponding to character codes are pulled out from a ROM, etc., and outputted to a synthetization processing section 50 after they are facsimile-coded at every line. Since character information is transmitted as a document in which the character information is mixed with picture information after the character information is converted into picture information in such way, the document in which character and picture information are mixed can be reproduced with general purpose facsimile equipment on the receiving side.
