PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of knocking by installing a shift-up detecting means and an ignition timing correcting means onto the ignition timing controller for the engine for car which is equipped with an exhaust turbosupercharger and connected with an automatic transmission, thus increasing the supercharge pressure. CONSTITUTION:In a four-cylinder engine 1 for car, an air flow meter 2, throttle valve 3, and a compressor 4a of an exhaust turbosupercharger 4 are arranged in this order, and connected to an intake passage 5 whose downstream edge is branched to each cylinder. A control unit 15 is equipped with a shift-up detecting means which detects the shift-up timing from the throttle opening degree signal, boost pressure signal, and a shift signal, fundamental ignition timing setting means for setting the fundamental ignition timing, ignition timing correcting means which receives the output of the shift-up detecting means and delays the ignition timing for a prescribed time after the shift-up, and an ignition timing control means which sends an ignition signal into an ignitor coil 11.
