TOOL CHANGING DEVICE FOR A MACHINE TOOL

The tool change mechanism is for a machine tool spindle (1) with a cylindrical axial bore (3) to receive the shank (10) of a tool carrier (9). This has annular face (13) to locate on a corresponding radial end face (4) of the spindle. The shank contains a transverse bore contg. a slidable clamp member (12) for engagement by transverse set screws (7,8) in the spindle. These are rotatable by a screw driver (21) carried by the tool change gripper arm. The screws have inwardly converging or diverging ends for engagement with complementary ends of the member (12). The distance of the screw axis (A1) from the face (4) is slightly greater than that of the axis of the member (12) from the annular face (13). Tightening one screw (7) clamps the faces axially together.
