The method of operating an ic-engine with an air compressor driven by it, has a first part of the pressurised air from the compressor supplied to the IC engine as intake air. A second part is supplied to the IC engine as cooling air. A third part is shunted past the ic engine to be supplied, together with exhaust gases from the engine and the cooling air, to a working actuator. The air is then caused to expand while performing work. The exhaust gases, cooling air and shunted pressurised ai can be mixed with one another before being supplied to the working output. The gases supplied cary heat as exhaust heat, coolig heat and compression heat to the mixing plenum. |
