PURPOSE:To reduce a buffer memory, and to simplify the management of the buffer memory, by dividing data into specific data by every hierarchy at a transmission side equipment, in a data communication system having a hierachical protocol, detecting the specific data at the transmission side equipment then dividing them into the data by every hierarchy, and accumulating them at an individual buffer memory. CONSTITUTION:At a transmission side equipment 1, specific data i3 and i4 are inserted between a level 2 data d2...a level 4 data d4, then being transmitted. At a reception side equipment 3, the presence/absence of the specific data i3 and i4 is identified, and the level 2 data d2...the level 4 data d4 are separated, and they are accumulated at buffer memories 36, 37, and 38 respectively. Therefore, also corresponding level 2 data d2..., level 4 data d4 are accumulated at the buffer memories 36, 37, and 38 at the reception side equipment 3 similarly in the transmission side equipment 1. Therefore, the storage capacity of the buffer memories 36-38 can be reduced, and the management of the buffer memory is performed in the same form as in buffer memories 14-16, thereby it is simplified.
