PURPOSE:To form the build-up layer having a narrow build-up width and constant build-up thickness by providing the guide part expanding to the external part on the holder holding the side face of the bar part of a work, in case of performing the fused build-up of a metal powder body on the bar part end face of a work with a plasma arc. CONSTITUTION:A work holder 2 provides the guide parts 2e, 2f expanding to the external part with the right and left holders 2a, 2b as a water cooling type, opposing the work 1 pinched on the holding faces 2c, 2d to a plasma torch 4. The torch 4 feeds an Ar gas to the passage 4c of a shielding gas B and passage 4d of a work gas, impressing a DC voltage between a W electrode 4g and work W1 and generating a plasma arc A. When the arc A and gas B are controlled in their expansion by the guide parts 2e, 2f and a molten pool is formed on the bar part end face of the work W1, a build-up layer W0 is formed by feeding the metal powder body from the passage 4e. In this way the buildup layer having a narrow buildup width and constant buildup thickness can be formed.
