PURPOSE:To prevent contact heat from giving ill effects to a lower magnetic layer by providing a protective layer having abrasion performance to a magnetic recording medium. CONSTITUTION:An abrasion material layer 1 which has the m.p. or decomposition point lower than the permissible heat resisting temp. of the magnetic layer 2 and has sublimable property is provided on the magnetic layer 1. The abrasion layer 1 is decomposed or melted by the heat generated with the contact and the heat thereof is deprived of when the magnetic recording medium and magnetic head contact each other with the face pressure above the design value by the change of use conditions, etc. The thermal influence arising from the sliding between the magnetic recording medium and magnetic head is thereby prevented and the reliability of a magnetic recording device using the magnetic recording medium is improved.
