PURPOSE:To obtain a polyamide both of whose terminals are modified, improved in heat resistance, moisture absorption resistance, etc., and freed of a problem of forming a gel during polymerization or molding, by adding a monoamino hydrocarbon compound to a monomer component for the production of a polyamide at a specified ratio and polymerizing the mixture. CONSTITUTION:To a polymerization system containing a monomer component for the production of a polyamide, 0.0005-0.02mol, per mol of this monomer component, of a (5-20C) monoamino hydrocarbon compound is added, and said monomer component is polymerized until the relative viscosity [etar] of the formed polymer reaches 2.0 or above. The obtained polyamide is one having terminals modified with the monoamino hydrocarbon compound and has an amino terminal group concentration <=5.5X10<-5> equivalent/g and a relative viscosity [etar] of 2.0-5.0. Example of said monoamino hydrocarbon compounds include hexylamine, hepthylamine and octylamine.
