PURPOSE:To reliably secure an intermediate shaft joint to a metal through simple constitution, by a method wherein an intermediate shaft, connected to a lead coil, is contained in a sleeve, the upper edge of the sleeve is recessed, the upper edge of a metal surrounding the sleeve is calked to integrally form the sleeve in a manner to be fitted in the recessed part. CONSTITUTION:An intermediate shaft 5, forming an intermediate shaft joint, is joined integrally with a sleeve 6 made of a metal trough a glass seal 7. When a calking part 10 surrounding the annularly formed intermediate shaft joint mounting hole of a metal 2 is in an erecting state 10', a ceramic heater 3, and an intermediate shaft joint, interconnecting a metallic outer cylinder 4 and a lead coil 8, are fitted into the mounting hole to lock it to a stepped part 13. Thereafter, a calking mold 14 is lowered to bend the calking part 10 inwardly for engagement, and the upper edge of the metal 2 is calked to cover the sleeve 6, and the calking part 11 is partially caked so as to be fitted in a recessed part 12 of the sleever 6. This constitution produces an effect of reliably securing the intermediate shaft joint to the metal through simple constitution, and enables reduction of a cost.
