In a p.m.d.c. electric motor (l), having a wound armature and a commutator (4), a centrifugal fan (24) is mounted on the end of the armature between the armature and brushes (l4) which contact the commutator. By positioning the fan (24) in this region it is not necessary to the extend the motor casing (5) as with prior art designs where a fan is mounted on shaft (2). The fan comprises a plurality of blades (26) integral with an annular blade support (25, 27) secured to the end of the armature proximate the commutator and at a position adjacent to the outer peripheral surface of the armature, by glue or by snap-fit engagement with a fan mounting member (40) connected to the armature by armature coils. |
