PURPOSE:To prevent backfire phenomena, reduce and clean NOX and permit the control of combustion under safe condition by a method wherein fuel is supplied from one side of a combustion unit, air is supplied directly to the combustion unit while distributing to many points without premixing with the fuel a part wherein a catalyst is allowed to function under reducing atmosphere, is constituted therein, while temperature detectors are provided at the upstream point and the downstream point of said catalyzing unit. CONSTITUTION:An air supplying tube 4 is provided with a multitude of air holes 6 on the surface thereof which is opposed to a catalyst body 3 while most of the air is supplied directly to a combustion unit 12 while distributing it into many points without mixing with fuel, therefore, backfire may be prevented perfectly. On the other hand, reducing atmosphere is obtained in the upstream part of the combustion unit 12 except the most downstream part thereof and, accordingly, a catalyst 3 oxidizes the fuel in this part and reduces NOX from other generating source into nitrogen. A temperature difference detector 17 controls the difference of detecting temperatures at two positions 17a, 17b in accordance with a limit set value, whereby safety control with respect to imperfect combustion can be effected. |
