PURPOSE:To hold the common property for a picture processor which is not provided with an expanding reducing circuit and the picture processor which is provided with the circuit and to simplify to attach/detach the expanding reducing circuit by being able to attach/detach the expanding reducing circuit and provided with a changingover means to change over a clock in accordance with the attaching/detaching. CONSTITUTION:In a picture reader 1, an original reading part 3, an attachable detachable expanding reducing circuit 4, a selecting circuit 5 to select respective types of the signal from the reading part 3 or the circuit 4 and a binarization circuit 6 are incorporated. The reading part 3 outputs original picture data Da and circuits 4 and 5. The processing timing occurs at the reading part 3. The timing is executed by a picture transferring clock CLK1, etc. The circuit 4 expands and reduces the data Da, gives data Db to the circuit 5, generates the timing signal of the circuit as a whole based on the clock CLK 1 and other signal from the reading part 3 and gives a writing clock CLK3 to the circuit 5. In such a way, since the processing clock to the data Da or Db and the binarization circuit 6 can be changed over by the detaching of the circuit 4, the expanding reducing circuit 4 can be added from the external part as a unit circuit.
