PURPOSE:To readily produce the titled structure of extremely high purity having a desired shape, by converting a shaped article of a desired form prepared from a condensed viscous solution of an aqueous solution of a titanium or an alkoxytitanium peroxyhydrate into a frozen material, drying the resultant material and heating the dried material. CONSTITUTION:Although an aqueous solution of titanium peroxyhydrate or aqueous solution of an alkoxytitanium peroxyhydrate or both are metastable at a cold temperature, free hydrogen peroxide is initially decomposed above room temperature to release a large volume of oxygen gas. The titanium peroxyhydrate with a high peroxyhydrate content is simultaneously converted into titanium peroxyhydrate with a low peroxyhydrate content and condensation is then initiated to gradually increase consistency and form a jelly-like substance. A given shape is then imparted thereto and directly quick-frozen with, e.g. liquid nitrogen, etc., to give a frozen material containing a fibrous structure having voids blended with the solid moisture. The resultant frozen material is then decompressed, taken out and gradually heated to cause dehydration and heat absorption at about 100 deg.C with keeping the shape thereof and dehydration, deoxidation and heat generation at about 250-320 deg.C. The aimed fibrous structure of high-purity titanium oxide having voids is formed at >=450 deg.C. |
