PURPOSE:To shut off the atm. so as to prevent the generation of scum and to absorb the generated scum so as to prevent the generation of lumped scum by pouring the melt of a Ti-contg. alloy coated with a scum absorbent into a mold for centrifugal casting. CONSTITUTION:A flux as the scum absorbent is added over the entire surface of the molten Ti-contg. alloy to isolate the melt surface from the air, by which the generation of TiN, TiO2 and Al2O3 is prevented. Further, the floating TiN, TiO2 and Al2O3 are absorbed. The molten metal is then cast into the mold for centrifugal casting under rotation. The flux flows as well together with the molten metal into the mold and the scum absorbent is gathered to the bore side by centrifugal force. Such absorbent is easily removable after casting. The embedment of the lumped scum into the thick-walled part of the cast pipe is, therefore, obviated.
