The manual sanding unit comprises a plane carrier (1), e.g. with a foam layer (2), for securing a sheet of sandpaper by folding the edges over the ends of the carrier, and a hand grip (9) on the carrier. The hand grip is pivotably connected with one end of the carrier and there provided with a projecting portin (11) to act in conjuction with a upward flange (5) on the carrier. The other end of the hand grip has a downwardly extending (12) pressure member (13) held down by a releasable spring latch (14;15). One edge of the sandpaper sheet is clamped in the gap (7) between the projection (11) and the flange (5), whilst the opposite edge is clamped by the pressure member (13).
