PURPOSE:To prevent burning of bearing even if there are many bearing points by flowing a lubrication liquid for a vertical shaft pump upwardly from the lower section of a protection pipe. CONSTITUTION:Pump shafts 6a, 6b are journaled by an upper section bearing 10a provided at a delivery bend 2, an intermediate bearing 10b provided at an intermediate coupling 3 and a lower section bearing 10c fixed to a bearing case 11. A lubrication liquid flows through a supply pipe 18 to a shaft sealing device 13 then rises in a protection pipe 12a through a gap between the bearing 10c and the pump shaft 6a thereafter passes sequentially over the inner faces of the bearings 10b, 10c. Consequently, the air in the protection pipe can be discharged reliably from the protection pipe and the bearing is prevented from burning.
