PURPOSE:To secure the necessary min. optimum number of workers corresponding to the variation in production load, by a method wherein a painting chamber is formed into a U-turn structure to allow front and rear manual painting zones to be adjacent and workers are enabled to come and go between said zones. CONSTITUTION:A painting chamber 12 is formed into a U-turn structure wherein an advance path and a return path are provided in the feed direction of an article 14 to be painted and the front manual painting zone 16 in the inlet side of the painting chamber 12 is allowed to be adjacent to the rear manual painting zone 20 in the outlet zone thereof. The part between both adjacent painting zones 16, 20 is merely subjected to zone division so as to enable workers to freely come and go and no partition wall is provided or an automatic opening door is provided. Therefore, corresponding to the production load in both manual painting zones 16, 20, the works of both zones can be performed by the same worker.
