PURPOSE:To exactly know the change of a furnace condition in a method for operating a blast furnace by determining the top end region in a heat preserving zone where the temp. change is significant as points to be measured. CONSTITUTION:A furnace top sonde 1 positioned in the stock line S for raw material, a shaft upper sonde 2 positioned below the same and a shaft middle sonde 3 positioned thereunder are respectively arranged radially in the blast furnace F. The sonde 3 is disposed in the position corresponding to 35-45% of the height of change on the basis of the stock line S in order to make sampling and measuring in the top end region of the heat preserving zone where the positions fluctuates vertically and radially relative to the furnace F. The plural measuring points P1-P6 are provided for the purpose of sampling. The stability of the furnace condition is discriminated by the temp. differences between the temps. measured at said measuring points P1-P6 and the reference temps. to maintain the stable furnace condition.
