PURPOSE:To provide an automatic tool changing device which is compact, low-cost, easy to maintain and service, and can improve workability, by a method wherein a gripper, being variable in a parallel and a right-angled direction, is mounted on an arm revolving shaft having 45 deg. swirl mounting surfaces to both tips of a twin arm. CONSTITUTION:A Z-twin arm 80 is mounted to a 45 deg. inclination revolving guide surface 80a at the tip of a revolving shaft 67 of a change arm body 61 of an automatic tool changing device (ATC), and is revolved on a gripper mounting table 82 by means of gears 84 and 85 through the piston rod and the rack of a cylinder 83 centering around an oscillating shaft 81, and the direction of a gripper 86 is converted in a 90 deg. arc into an X-axis direction B and a Z-axis direction A. The whole of a twine arm 80 is longitudinally and laterally moved by means of a revolving drive device 70, mounted to the end surface of a change arm 61, longitudinal slide cylinders 50 and 54, and slide cylinders 63 on both sides, is positioned in a place, and delivery of a tool between a tool magazine and a tool rest tarret, attachment, and detachment are effected.
