PURPOSE:To reduce the thickness of a magnetic disk device by reading the deviation of a position reference track of a magnetic disk to obtain an error signal and correcting the succeeding moving quantity of the magnetic head from the error signal and the object track signal thereby eliminating the need for a servo disk and a servo head. CONSTITUTION:If an error takes place in a data signal, a data head 8 is floated to the servo track position, a read output of a servo signal is obtained via a peak detector 17, a position error signal is obtained by a differential voltage detector 18, the digitized position error of each servo track is stored in (a), (b) registers 20, 21, the displacement per unit track is calculated by a calculation circuit 22, and the correction Y of an object track (m) is calculated and corrected by a correction means 24. The said correction Y is fed to a microprocessor 23, the position information of the track (m) stored in a memory 23a is corrected and outputted to a head drive circuit 26 to drive a motor 10 and to position the data head 8 correctly.
