PURPOSE:To form a bevel gear of desired form with no trial cut at the time of changing specifications for the bevel gear, by finely adjusting a relative position between a cutter head and a work head in conformity with graduations of the reference member installed in a gear cutting machine and a gauge. CONSTITUTION:When pointers 14b and 15b of both first and second gauges attached to a gauge holding member 13 show 'zero' of graduations, zeroing takes place so as to become the specified size in both H and V directions. That is to say, an adjusting mechanism of a bear cutting machine is finely adjusted so as to cause the graduations to become '0' as watching the first gauge 14 and sizing adjustment is carried out, whereby space setting in the H direction is completed, and simultaneously the space setting in the V direction is finished as watching the second gauge 15. With this operation, a program change is over, leaving a reference position setting member 31 behind, and other jig constituent members 21, 14, 15, etc., are removed from the gear cutting machine, thus gear cutting is carried out. Therefor, the desired from is formable from the first gear cutting.
