PURPOSE:To eliminate intergranular corrosion and to cast a member for a nuclear reactor having extremely high corrosion resistance by maintaining the inside wall of a casting mold at the solidification temp. of a molten alloy or above and allowing the surface of an ingot to solidify on the immediate outside of the casting mold. CONSTITUTION:A resistance heating element 3 is built in the casting mold for continuous casting and the temp. of the inside wall 1a is kept at the solidification temp. of the molten metal 2 or above. The solidification on the surface 8a of the ingot 8 is executed on the immediate outside of the casting mold 1. Such casting is executed by setting a dummy ingot 5 to the bottom end of the casting mold, drawing out the ingot by pinch rolls 7 while cooling the ingot with water, etc. of a cooler 6 and forming the ingot continuously at the front end of the dummy. Since the unidirectionally solidified structure of a single crystal having an optional shape is formed, there are substantially no grain boundaries in the inside. The generation of the intergranular corrosion is thereby obviated and the peripheral member for the nuclear reactor having extremely high corrosion resistance is produced.
