The invention relates to a granulated material comprising various types of clay and other natural raw materials for the pressureless production of highly porous, ceramic shaped bodies. It is an object of the present invention to provide a granular material from which shaped bodies having a uniform microstructure and high strength to be produced. This object is achieved by the granular material being made up of tubular hollow bodies. As a result of such a structure, the granular material can, on swelling, expand not only outwards but also inwards.
