PURPOSE:To efficiently retrieve an objective picture by simultaneously displaying plural prescribed pages of the prescribed picture as a reduced picture among the plural simultaneously displayed reduced pictures. CONSTITUTION:The address 21a of the page, an index picture storing position 21b, a real picture storing position 21c and the chain address 21d of the next page are stored in the management file 21 of the page. The index picture is defined as the picture obtained by reducing a part or a whole of a real picture by a prescribed reduction ratio. Whether the objective picture is prsesnt or not in the displayed pictures is decided, when the objective picture is present, if the picture is designated, the designated index picture is inverted, the real picture storing position of the designated page is read from the page management file, and the real picture present in the designated position in an optical disk device (OD)6 is displayed.
