The camshaft of an internal combustion engine with a plurality of cylinders arranged in tandem is additionally supported in the timing case of the internal combustion engine. This bearing designed as roller bearing is provided between the camshaft sprocket wheel and the ignition distributor arranged on the end of the camshaft outside the timing case and is supported on the ignition distributor housing, which in turn is bolted to the timing case cover. In this way the bending moments applied to the camshaft by the timing chain are distinctly reduced.
