PURPOSE:To facilitate setting an inputting range when using an irregular form paper and enhance operability, by providing the function of setting a left end printing position and a right end printing position while moving a printing head and setting the number of inputtable lines on the basis of the length of the paper. CONSTITUTION:Supplied with information from an input-controlling part 75A, a head movement controlling part 71A conrtrols the driving of a printing mechanism part 3A to move a carriage, and stores the current printing head position into a storing part 73A. On receiving the information from the controlling part 75A, an irregular form paper setting part 71C reads the current printing head position stored in the storing part 73A, sets the position to be a left or right end printing position, and stores the position into a storing part 73B. On receiving paper lenqth information from the controlling part 75A, the setting part 71C sets the number of inputtable lines through calculations based on the paper length information and a line pitch stored in a storing part 73C, and stores the number into a storing part 73D. A character edition controlling part 71D receives character information from the controlling part 75A, and edits the input character information on the basis of information sent from a scale guidance synthesizing part 71E.
