PURPOSE:To obtain the title medium excellent in fine and uniform matte transfer printing characteristics, by using as a base a rough surface film comprising a polyarylate resin, a polyester resin and an acrylic resin in specified ratios, stretched to at least a specified draw ratio and having a uniformly rugged surface. CONSTITUTION: A thermal transfer medium is produced by using as a base a rough surface film which is formed from a mixture of a suitable combination of 1-20 parts of a polyarylate resin comprising terephthalic acid, isophthalic acid (the molar ratio of terephthalic acid groups to isophthalic acid groups is 9:1 1:9) and a dihydric phenolic compound, 60-98 parts of a linear polyester resin and 1-30 parts of an acrylic resin and satisfying the relationship A-10<=S<=A+15, wherein A is the amount of the polyarylate resin (parts) and S is the amount of the acrylic resin (parts), and which is stretched to a draw ratio of at least 1.5 in at least one direction. |
