PURPOSE:To eliminated the sense of incompatibility for a driver between at the time of a partial cylinder operation and at the time of a whole cylinder operation by providing a throttle valve opening correcting means for correcting the opening of a throttle valve at the time of said partial cylinder operation by means of a cylinder number controlling means. CONSTITUTION:Fuel is controlled to be injected from a fuel injection valve 12, by a control unit 24. A valve stopping actuator 14 is controlled to increase and decrease the number of operating cylinders to get a whole cylinder operation and a partial cylinder operation. Further, the opening of a throttle valve 11 is feedback controlled to be a defined opening according to the operating condition of an engine 1. At the time of the partial cylinder operation, the control unit 24 corrects the opening of a throttle valve to the open side more than that at the time of the whole cylinder operation, to increase an intake air filling quantity and increase a generating torque. Thereby, in either case, the same torque can be obtained by the same accelerator operating quantity, eliminating the sense of incompatibility for a driver between at the time of a partial cylinder operation and at the time of a whole cylinder operation.
