PURPOSE:To exactly obtain a result of retrieval by updating the contents of a retrieval key storage part, based on the contents of a key relation storage part, in case a retrieval is instructed, and thereafter, retrieving a document having a retrieval key, and displaying its result. CONSTITUTION:In case an operator is diffident in a fact that a key which is supplied at the time of registering a document to be retrieved is for instance, 'a computer', he adds information for showing that 'a computer' and 'a KEISANKI (computer)' belong to a key of synonymity, to the contents of a key relation storage part 5 by a key relation updating part 8. Subsequently, when the operator instructs a retrievals by a retrieval instructing part 7, the instructing part 7 starts a retrieval key updating part 6, and updates the contents of a retrieval key storage part 1, based on the contents of the storage part 5. Thereafter, the updating part 6 starts a retrieving part 3, the retrieving part 3 retrieves a document having a key 'a computer' or a key 'a KEISANKI (computer)' which is stored in the storage part 1, from in a document which is stored in a document storage part 2, and a display part 4 displays a result of retrieval of the retrieving part 3.
