PURPOSE:To prevent a blow-off phenomenon and a vibration combustion by providing air inlet holes in a combustion cylinder extending between a primary air hole and a swirler of a reverse flow can type burner. CONSTITUTION:Four guide cylinders 6 consisting of short cylindrical parts, each of which has a slightly smaller liameter than that of a primary air hole 5, that is, air inlet holes, are provided symmetrically in a combustion cylinder 1 between a swirler and the primary air hole 5. The air guide cylinders 6 are arranged eccentrically so that they are assisted by air turning in the same direction as a swirl flow S and further the tip end of a short cylindrical part is made to contact the angle 1 of spray of a fuel ejected from a fuel injection valve, thus protruding into a fuel overrich region. Accordingly, the swirl flow S is energized to promote a turbulent dispersion thereby to remove the shortage in air in the fuel overrich region, and hence to suppress the reduction of soots to form a clean exhaust gas. Furthermore, by the generation of the turbulent flow, the stability of a flame is improved, and it does not induce blow-off and vibration combustion.
