A plate filter press has a plurality of movable filter plates and filter frames, which are arranged alternately parallel to one another in a mounting structure to form a filter pack, and an endless press belt or segment belt which is taken in a zig-zag shape deflected via deflection rollers between the filter plates and the filter frames. Outside the mounting structure, in the immediate vicinity thereof, the endless press belt or segment belt is passed through a washing device. A drive device for the press belt or segment belt is formed by a main drive motor and a plurality of further secondary drive motors, the main drive motor preferably being located in the region of the mounting structure and the secondary drive motors being connected directly to the deflection rollers. The main drive motor and the secondary drive motor are designed as electric motors which have a frequency converter for parallel control.
