A vane cell pump (10) is proposed, which simultaneously works as a vent valve at standstill or low speed of the rotor (16). The cross-section of the inner space (32) of the vane cell pumps (10), which receives a rotor (16), has a cross-section which deviates from that of the rotor (16) in such a manner that a sudden spacing change occurs between rotor outer wall and housing inner wall (14). As a result of this, vanes (26) arranged in slots (18, 20, 22, 24) come in a delayed manner into interaction with the inner wall (14) so that a continuous connection between the working inlet and outlet (28, 30) of the vane cell pump (10) can be formed. <IMAGE>
