The invention relates to an alternating current contactor having an armature which is operated by a magnet system and is effectively connected to a contact support which holds the moving contact elements of the contact system and is loaded by the force of a restoring spring. In this case, the armature is effectively connected to the contact support via a coupling spring and an intermediate slide which is supported such that it can be displaced relative to the contact support, and the contact support is provided with an additional mass, in accordance with Patent Application P 3523051.7. The additional mass is loaded by spring force against a stop on the contact support, in the opposite direction to that in which the contact support moves, via a separate additional spring. The coupling springs are held in blind holes and are supported at the other end on pins of the intermediate slide, which is guided in guide rails on the contact support. The blind holes are incorporated in projections on the contact support which, for their part, are used for guiding the additional mass and for holding a covering part for the additional mass. The separate additional spring is held, as a leaf spring, by means of its ends in grooves in these projections.
