The invention relates to an axe comprising an axe head 4 provided with auxiliary lateral flanges 1. The problem to be solved consists in facilitating the penetration of the axe while increasing its separating force. The axe is characterised in that each auxiliary flange 1 has a width 2 equal to a fraction of the width 3 of the axe head 4, the zones of connection between the auxiliary flanges and the axe head having a continuous or almost continuous line, as do the auxiliary flanges themselves.
