PURPOSE:To improve the document production efficiency by securing such a constitution where a ruled line once extended is automatically reset to its original position in case a sentence is converted into a KANA (Japanese syllabary)-KANJI (Chinese character) sentence and stored in its original block. CONSTITUTION:In case the codes of unconverted character string 'KYO' (KANA), for example, is supplied to a buffer memory 7 and displayed on a CRT display 5, an instruction is given to convert said character string into a KANA-KANJI sentence via the operation of a conversion key or some other processing. In such a case, a CPU 2 converts the unconverted character string stored in a read table 6 into a KANA-KANJI sentence with reference to a dictionary memory 10. Here the converted character string 'KYO' (KANJI) can be displayed within an original block. Under such conditions, the 1st line stored in a buffer memory 7, i.e., the final line of the original block is stored in a position corresponding to a text buffer memory 3, i.e., the position of the final line of the original block. The memory contents of the memory 3 where the final line of the block is rewritten are displayed on the screen of the display 5.
