SURFACE TREATING AGENT AND METHOD THEREFOR

PURPOSE:To provide a treating agent for inhibiting the abnormal oxidation of stainless steel at high temp. by dispersing a magnesium silicate hydrate-base clay mineral and kaolinite group aluminum silicate hydrate-base in a solvent such as water or alcohol. CONSTITUTION:A magnesium silicate hydrate-base clay mineral and a kaolinite group aluminum silicate hydrate are dispersed in a solvent such as water or alcohol to obtain a surface treating agent. This surface treating agent is applied to the surface of stainless steel and dried to form a film. By this method, the abnormal oxidation of the stainless steel during heat treatment at high temp. can be inhibited. Especially even in case of relatively slow heating for the heat treatment of a stainless steel plate at the time of hot rolling, the occurrence of abnormal oxidation can be well prevented.
