PURPOSE:To obtain the titled copolymer which is excellent in heat resistance and solubility in an organic solvent and is radiation-crosslinkable, comprising bonds of three specified kinds of repeating units. CONSTITUTION:p-Methylstyrene (a) is copolymerized with alpha-methylstyrene (b) at a molar ratio (a/b) of 2-98/98-2 to obtain a random or block copolymer (A) of a number-average MW of several thousands to several millions and a weight-average MW / number-average MW <=2.0. Component A is reacted with an organolithium compound (B) (e.g., butyllithium) in a solvent at -70 deg.C to the boiling of the solvent for 0.1-100hr to lithiate part of the p-methyl groups of component A, and the product is reacted with 1-100mol, per mol of component B, silicon compound (C) of formula I (wherein R<1-3> are each a 1-6C alkyl or a 2-6C alkenyl provided that at least one of them is an alkenyl, and X is a halogen) at -50-150 deg.C for 0.1-100hr to obtain the titled copolymer comprising bonds of 1-70mol% units of formula II, 1-97mol% of formula III and 2-98mol% units of formula IV.
