PURPOSE:To reduce the memory area of a coding data table by coding with variable length only the higher bits having redundancies higher than the prescribed value among those digital signals of plural bit length. CONSTITUTION:When the original data is equal to '101', the lowest bit '1' is delivered as it is in the form of the lower 1-bit data 3. While '10' of higher 2 bits is coded into a Huffman code via a Huffman coding table and then converted into '1110'. Therefore the final coding data 5 is equal to '11101'. As a result, just a 2-bit table suffices and therefore a memory area can be halved compared with Huffman coding of all 3 bits. |
