PURPOSE:To obtain a latex comprising a polymer excellent in heat stability, light discoloration resistance and gas barrier property, by emulsion-polymerizing a copolymerizable monomer mixture containing vinylidene chloride with the aid of an emulsifier mixture and a polymerization initiator in a specified manner. CONSTITUTION:The emulsion polymerization of 100pts.wt. monomer mixture comprising 60-94wt% vinylidene chloride with 6-40wt% monomer copolymerizable therewith is performed in the following manner. Namely, an at least 80wt% portion of the monomer mixture is fed continuously and uniformly. During the continuous feeding, an at least 75wt% portion of an emulsifier mixture which comprises 0.03-1.0pt.wt. aninonic emulsifier and 0.1-1.5pts.wt. nonionic emulsifier and in which the nonionic emulsifier amounts to at least 60wt% of the total emulsifier and the whole or part of the polymerization initiator is continuously and uniformly fed to obtain the purpose latex.
