PURPOSE:To obtain an encoder resistant to external noise and available for use in abrupt temperature fluctuations and at high temperatures, by, in an optical rotary-encoder which receives changing brightnesses of a beam of light passing through rotary and stationary discs and takes out a signal, allowing an optical fiber to serve as light-emitting and light-receiving bodies. CONSTITUTION:Beams of light of luminous elements 11, 12, 13 are passed through rotary disc 7 and stationary disc 8 after passing through optical fiber cables 17, 18, 19, and change of brightnesses is received by light-receiving elements 14, 15, 16 via optical fibers 20, 21, 22 and a signal is taken out. As, even if the number of signals thus taken out is plural, the optical fiber cables 17, 18, 19 of a light-emitting body and a optical fiber cables 20, 21, 22 of the light-receiving body can be formed as a pair, a signal with stable quantity of light can be taken out.
