PURPOSE:To efficiently carry out deep bed filtration by preventing the floating or fluidization of the filter bed irrespective of the feed rate of the raw liq. to be filtered. CONSTITUTION:A filter bed supporting plate 12 provided with many distributors 13 over the whole surface is furnished in a closed-type main filter vessel 11. A filter medium supporting bed 20 and filter beds 21 and 22 are arranged on the supporting plate 12 so that the sizes of the disposed particles are decreased from the lower bed toward the upper bed. A filtrate collecting member 30, a filtrate outlet nozzle 35, a nozzle 1 for supplying a raw liq. to be filtered, a nozzle 2 for blowing filter bed agitating air, a liq. discharge nozzle 4, a suction and exhaust nozzle 3 for washing and regenerating the filter bed, and a washing liq. discharge nozzle 5 are provided, the closed space over the filter beds 21 and 22 is filled with the filtrate, the raw liq. to be filtered is supplied from the lower parts of the filter beds 21 and 22, the filtrate is discharged to the outside from the surfaces of the filter beds 21 and 22, and filtration is carried out.
