PURPOSE:To display an endoscope image at the center position of a monitor picture as long as no character data exists, by varying the display position of the endoscope image according to the presence or absence of the character data or its quantity. CONSTITUTION:The video signals corresponding to an endoscope image outputted from an electronic scope 17 are signal processed by a video processing circuit 18 and stored in a video memory 20 after A/D conversion 19. The information stored in the memory 20 is read out by the timing of a reading circuit 15 and applied to an addition circuit 16 after D/A conversion 21. The timing signal outputted from the circuit 15 varies by a fact whether a reading circuit 13 detects or not the character data of a character memory 12. If the circuit 13 detects the character data, such timing is given to display the endoscope image at the right side. The circuit 16 adds the analog video signals with the character data and outputs them to a monitor 22 as the synthetic video signals.
