PURPOSE:To prevent unnecessary fog developing at the time of termination of developing by forming developing promoting bias and cleaning promoting bias alternately by AC bias and stopping the cleaning promoting bias of AC bias at the time of termination of the developing. CONSTITUTION:One period of AC bias applied between electrodes 3, 5 consists of the developing promoting polarity area (developing promoting bias) W1 and the cleaning polarity area (cleaning promoting bias) of reversed polarity. When developing is terminated while developing promoting polarity is applied, fog remains in non-image part. Accordingly, at the time of termination of developing, at least developing promoting polarity area (developing promoting bias) is weakened or stopped, and after completing developing th cleaning polarity area (cleaning promoting bias) of AC bias is stopped.
